Fire damaged a mobile home in a rural part of Jasper County early Monday morning.

Montrose Fire Protection District was called out at 5:09am to a structure along North 375th Street. Montrose Fire Protection District Captain Jacob Vogt said the man, whose name was not available, woke up to his house filling with smoke. The man was able to get out unharmed.

Vogt said the fire began in the electrical panel, located in a bedroom of the structure. He said fire damage was confined to the bedroom, but said there was smoke throughout the structure.

Montrose firefighters were assisted by fire companies from Teutopolis, Dieterich, Wade Township, Crooked Creek, Greenup and Toledo, while companies from Effingham and Sigel staffed the Montrose station in case of another fire call.

Vogt said that firefighters cleared the scene just after 7am.
