City Police Share About Another Scam

Effingham City Police are sharing information about a scam.

A Facebook post from the police department suggests that if you receive, or have received, a text message that you owe a toll fee and asks you to click on a link to be aware that it is a scam. The item given as an example on the post deals with the Illinois Tollway., or toll way as the scammer posts it. The scam suggests a bogus step to take to avoid a late fee.

The post from police advises not to respond to such messages and not to visit a link suggested.

Police say the best course of action is to simply delete the message to avoid any potential harm.
