Altamont city council members Monday awarded a contract for installation of a water main near the Interstate 70 overpass.

The project involves enclosing the overpass that once was part of the now-vacated B&O Railroad at Altamont. R&H Plumbing and Heating of Altamont was the low bidder at $137,900.

The Council also awarded mowing bids. Jon Berg will mow the Municipal Building property, various small areas, and the sewer lagoon. Precision Lawn Care will mow Union Cemetery, Gilbert Park, Schmidt Park and Heritage Park.

Dirty Boys Construction was contracted to replace the foundation beneath the street department storage building at a cost of from $15,000 and $18,000.

The Council increased fees for organized leagues and for tournaments with four or more teams that utilize Gilbert Park. The fee was increased to $500. Proceeds will pay for improvements at Gilbert Park. Also approved was a $12,000 payment to MJ Remodeling for roofing work at Gilbert Park.
