Salem resident Marcus Hicks has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a burglary at an Edgewood business last year.

The 34-year-old Hicks had been arrested last July for his role in a break-in at the Beerport. Hicks pled guilty to the burglary and will be placed on one year's mandatory supervised release once out of prison.

Hicks had also been charged with possession of a vehicle believed taken from Kinmundy. He was also sentenced to 10 years in prison in Marion County for residential burglary last November.

Effingham County Sheriff Paul Kuhns said at the time of the break-in that his office got an alarm from the Beerport. A nearby deputy noticed the glass was busted out of the door of the business. The deputy found Hicks and took him into custody without further incident. Kuhns said that considerable damage had been done to the business.
