Area Counties Contested Election Results

A look at Tuesday's primary election results in area counties shows a few races decided ahead of the general election in November.
The county most affected is Shelby County, where there were a number of contested primary contests on the Republican side.
In the contest for the Coroner nomination, incumbent Brad Phegley was re-nominated over Richard Moon 2,549 to 1,461.
The county board contest, however, were wide open. In District 4, Christy Wofford was nominated over incumbent Clark Amling 176 to 169; in District 5, Larry Syfet was nominated over incumbent Annette Martin 210 to 135; in District 8, Christine Matlock was nominated over incumbent Mitchell Shuff 335 to 155; in District 9, Gene Price was nominated over incumbent Cody Brands 338 to 144; and in District 10, Jeff Gregg was nominated over incumbent Martha Firnhaber 366 to 142. The exceptions were District 7, where incumbent Robert Orman was re-nominated over Tricia Faye Miller 207 to 140 and District 11, where incumbent Carol Cole was re-nominated over Nick Fiala 225 to 90.
In Jasper County, in the County Board District 3 race on the Republican side, incumbent Austin Francis was re-nominated over Susan Lindley 329 to 289.
In Fayette County, in the County Board District 5 on the Republican side, Michael Black was narrowly nominated over Glenda Bartels 281 to 269. Also, Fayette voters agreed that sales tax revenue can also be used for school resource offcers and mental health professionals 1,806 Yes to 1,378 No.
In Clay County, in the race for the Republican nomination for County Coroner, incumbent Bryce Henry outpolled challenger Lori Feldhake 66% to 34%.
In Cumberland County, in the race for the Republican nomination for County Coroner, incumbent Steve Sherwood outpolled Chuck Layton 55% to 45%. In the Republican contest for the Western County Board seat, Timothy Wente outpolled Aaron Beard 68% to 32%.
