Local Man Arrested for Alleged Attempted Home Invasion

A local man was arrested on a series of charges from a Tuesday night incident at an Effingham home.

43-year-old Chris N. Westergard of Effingham was arrested following the 11pm incident at a residence in the 400 block of St. Anthony Avenue.

Effingham City Police Chief Jason McFarland said a person reported a man was attempting to gain entrance into the residence. Police located Westergard, who was in possession of burglary tools and was formerly in a relationship with the resident of the home, and arrested him.

Westergard was arrested on counts of attempted home invasion, possession of burglary tools, and unlawful use of a weapon.

Westergard was ordered detained pending a court appearance.
