Teutopolis School Board Discusses County Facilities Sales Tax Question

Teutopolis school board members this week discussed the county school facility sales tax.

The Board directed Superintendent Matt Sturgeon to place the item on the April board meeting agenda, as the Board will consider whether to place the sales tax question on the November ballot.

All public school districts in the county are expected to consider the question.

Teutopolis board members accepted resignations or notices of intent to retire from junior high teacher Amy Oseland as of the end of the 26-27 school year, from junior high teacher Sheila Yagow as of the end of the 25-26 school year, from grade school paraprofessional Danielle Huffman effective in May, from grade school paraprofessional Angie Hotze effective in May, from grade school paraprofessional Carrie Copple effective March 27, from grade school and junior high school counselor Ashley Kreke effective in May, and from high school tennis coach Allie Deters. 

The Board also approved these hirings: Kara Probst as junior high special education teacher Kara Probst, grade school special education teacher Ashley Stevens, grade school Art teacher Grace Walker, high school volleyball volunteer Nick Hartke, junior high track assistant coach Salina Vahling, a reassignment at the staff member's request of Toby Isley to 8th grade track coach and and Rachel Habing to 7th grade track coach, Matt Carpenter as high school track volunteer, and Andy Borries as a high school baseball volunteer. 

Board members also established substitute teacher pay rates for the coming school year, established junior high school sports officials pay for the coming school year, and athletic work pay rates effective with contests this week. 

The Board set a special meeting date for Monday, March 25 for the purpose of collective bargaining preparation, and established end of year dates including high school graduation at 2:30pm on Sunday, May 12 and 8th grade promotion at 7:30pm on Wednesday, May 15. The Board also approved the calendar for the coming school year, renewed the SEPCO purchasing agreement, renewed software agreements for common goal systems and for the transportation network, renewed memberships in the IHSA and IESA for next school year, and authorized the solicitation of public bids for masonry work at the high school and the Unit office.
