Unofficial results are indicating that Adam Niemerg of Dieterich has been re-nominated as the Republican candidate for 102nd District state representative.

Niemerg said by phone from Springfield that he has heard from officials in a number of counties that he is leading challenger Jim Acklin by a substantial margin. Niemerg said he would be releasing a formal statement later today.

Niemerg had filed for re-election but a challenge to the filing of his paperwork was upheld by the Illinois State Board of Elections, knocking him off the ballot. Niemerg began a write-in campaign, but so did Acklin, a long-time public school official from the northern part of the district.

The other two Republican incumbents for state representative that represent portions of Effingham County, Brad Halbrook of Shelbyville and Blaine Wilhour of Beecher City, also won re-nomination Tuesday.
