The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that a patching and resurfacing project on Illinois Route 33 got underway this week.
The project, just under nine miles in length, starts at the Salt Creek bridge in Effingham and ends at Pine Street in Dieterich. It is estimated that the work will be completed by the end of May.
Lane closures are expected. Flaggers will be used to direct traffic through the work zones.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
