(KELLEDES)

Flora resident Matthew Kelledes Thursday was sentenced to eight years in prison in connection with an incident that occurred earlier this year at a local motel.

The 37-year-old Kelledes pleaded guilty to a Class 1 felony count of attempted kidnapping. Kelledes admitted to attempting to take a child under two years old who was in a car seat in the lobby of a motel along Avenue of Mid America in Effingham. There were reports of a physical altercation between Kelledes, hotel staff and patrons prior to city police officers and county sheriff's deputies reaching the scene. The child was not harmed.

Kelledes will be placed on one year mandatory supervised release once out of prison.
