The Teutopolis Village Plan Commission Wednesday agreed to recommend changes by the Village Board to guidelines concerning short-term rentals and home businesses.

The recommended changes concerning home businesses would include the number of vehicles outside at one time, and a requirement that employees have to be related to the owner of the business.

As for short-term rentals, the applicant would be required to fill out a permit. There would be no fee for the permit, but the information on the permit would give village officials information as to those using the property. Another change would require the person renting the facility to pay hotel/motel tax. The charge would take effect as of April 1, 2024. A third change would permit no more than 20 short-term rental facilties in the village limits and the 1-1/2 mile extra-territorial zoning jurisdiction. There are already more than 10 such facilities in place. Another stipulation would require two family members or two chaperones 21 or older per facility for each six minors staying at a facility. There would be no more than four guests who are unrelated 18 or older at a facility. Also, anytime a facility is sold, the new owner would have to reapply for a permit.

The Teutopolis Village Board is expected to vote on the changes at their meeting next Wednesday night.
