Altamont School Board Approves Curriculum Purchases

Altamont school board members Monday approved the purchase of new curriculum materials for Speech, Algebra, Geometry, Math, Psychology, Sociology and Health at a total cost of around $78,000.

The Board also approved next year's school calendar with the first student day on Thursday, August 15 and also okayed handbook updates for students and for athletics. Board members also received a high school Student Council update, heard about senior class trip plans from high school principal Peggy Bueker, learned from grade school principal Doug Hill that 8th grade promotion will be May 15.

In personnel moves, the Altamont board accepted Kris Ledbetter's retirement as of the end of the 26-27 school year, approved as volunteers John Ledbetter for high school softball, and Kolby Brewer and Derrick Budde for high school track; and approved 12-month contracts for Kathy Clausius, Lori Grimsley, Alan Whitt and Jared Stuckemeyer.

The Altamont board also discussed the 1% county sales tax that could appear on the November election ballot; authorized Superintedent Casey Adam to start work on a tentative fiscal year budget; approved an early graduation request; okayed an overnight trip for a high school baseball tournament; approved a Family and Medical Leave Act leave for an employee; and approved membership in the IHSA for the coming school year.
