Obie Farmer Not Reappointed as Hearts Boys Basketball Coach

The Effingham Unit 40 Board of Education Monday took action on a slate of coaches for the 2024-2025 school year.

The Board did not appoint Obie Farmer for another year as varsity boys basketball coach.

Unit 40 Superintendent Andy Johnson said the decision by the Board was at his recommendation. Johnson said, "A lack of program development and player development are a concern of mine."

There was no word as to a timetable for selecting a new varsity coach.

One of Farmer's assistant coaches the past two seasons, Jeht Wendt, spoke at the Board meeting on Farmer's behalf.
