Jim Acklin, a life-long educator with over four decades of public service as a teacher, a coach, a school superintendent, and a local government official has announced his campaign as a write-in candidate for the Republican nomination to be the next state representative of the 102nd House District.
Acklin said, “As an active member of my community, I have worked tirelessly to make sure that we leave a better world behind for our kids. That is why I have devoted my life to public education and public service. Unfortunately, politicians in Springfield like to attack public education and the educators that show up to work and make lives better for our kids. I have had enough of hearing that type of rhetoric from our current representation and I intend to do something about it. I intend to stand up for those educators and the families that rely on getting eastern Illinois our fair share of funding for our kids. I am running because Springfield is broken and our politicians have failed us.”
Acklin said, “We must fight the corruption that has become all too common in state government and follow up that fight with action not just words and press conferences. That is what I intend to do when the people of this fine district send me to Springfield. I talk to folks in our community every day and they want results not just press releases and sound bites. I, like them, am tired of self-serving politicians who are looking to further their own political careers and not make a real difference for citizens of the 102nd district.”
A campaign statement shares that "Acklin and his wife Cindy have enjoyed a 42-year marriage, raising three now-grown children. Grandchildren are now helping round out their happy home life. Jim Acklin, a lifelong Republican, is currently the acting Mayor of Ogden. Acklin is a dedicated family man, a fiscal conservative, Pro-Life, and a proud supporter of the 2nd Amendment. The district encompasses Champaign, Clark, Coles, Crawford, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, Effingham, Jasper, Lawrence, and Vermillion counties.
