The first phase of a countywide network of communications for fire departments in Effingham County is operational.

The new city system went online last week. Effingham County 911 board members heard Tuesday that the system is going well.

A system that will cover the remainder of the county is still to come.

The Board made its annual payments to the City and County for use of telecommunicators for the 911 system, and heard that work on a lifecycle management spreadsheet continues. The spreadsheet is designed to help 911 make equipment replacements or upgrades on a timely basis.

Board members also heard that a replacement generator for the original that had been in service since 911 went online in 1997 is on the way. There were problems with the motor in the new unit and it was replaced before the unit was shipped.

The Board also from Dave Faller of West and Company on the audit of 911 for the past fiscal year. Faller said they gave 911 a clean opinion.
