Local Woman Dies Following Jasper County Crash

A local woman died while on her way to the hospital following a crash in Jasper County.

64-year-old Denise Katt of Effingham was the passenger in a vehicle that rear-ended another vehicle at 1:12pm Friday. The crash happened near the Y intersection of Routes 33 and 130 east of Newton.

Katt was traveling in a vehicle driven by William Rinesmith of Vernilion that rear-ended a unit driven by Sandra Hires of Willow Hill. Katt was taken to Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson where she died. Crawford County Coroner Earl Deckard said neither driver was injured in the crash. 

An autopsy was scheduled for Monday morning in Champaign to determine the cause of Katt's death.
