Altamont City Council members have voted to amend the solar avoided cost rate.

The rate affects what Altamont electric customers who produce solar power save in electric costs.

The Illinois Municipal Electric Agency, of which Altamont is a part, reduced the rate of payback from .1007 per kilowatt to .0543/kilowatt. This affects those who began generating solar energy after April 2023.

The Council also amended their water supply agreement with EJ Water to correct a misprint in their original agreement. The agreement should reflect four-inch water lines, rather than six-inch lines.

Council members also authorized the lease of 3-1/2 acres of City-owned land north of the cemetery at the north edge of town. The land is used as farmground. The lease was approved with Spencer Hammer, who farms adjacent to the acreage, at a price of $700.
