Effingham Unit 40 school board members Tuesday approved a digital marquee project and proposal for both Effingham High School and Effingham Junior High School.

Double D Signs will install the signs at a cost of $123,000. The school district is using grant funds to pay a large share of the project cost.

The Board also approved an agreement with the Effingham/Teutopolis News Report to publish news magazines highlighting success of the school district and alumni of the district. The cost will be $9,900. The publications will be inserted into selected editions of the paper.

Board members approved changing the lifetime pass policy for former Unit 40 employees from anyone who worked for the district for 10 years to anyone who worked for the district for five years.

The Board also approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Regional Office of Education for alternative education. Designated students will go to classes at Tri-Star and Aspire at a cost of $325/student/quarter.

In personnel moves, the Unit 40 Board employed Seth Hinson as a paraprofessional at the high school, Paige Gilmore as a paraprofessional at Central, Justin Hayes as a high school assistant baseball coach, Drew Deters as a data systems specialist, and Violet Marshall as a mentor facilitator at the junior high.

Leaves of absence were granted Erica Schumacher, Lori West, Allen Birch, Tamara Birch, Cindy Curry and David Worman.

Resignations were accepted from Patricia Phillips as a paraprofessional at the high school, Whitney Yocum as a teacher assistant at Little Hearts, Alicia Winskill as a mentor facilitator at the junior high, Chelsea Painter as a paraprofessional at South Side, Jordan Jaspering as an elementary PE teacher at Central at the end of the current school year, and Lisa Poston as a teacher assistant at Little Hearts.
