Effingham Water Authority trustees discussed the future of Lake Sara Campgrounds.
Topics included capitalization that would be required to complete renovations and future expectations for a new campgrounds if sold.
Jack Schultz and Tom Ryan will form a Parks and Recreation committee and will contact a campground consultant at the EWA's expense. The proposed developer, CK Development, will put together a business plan, including a timeline for renovations. EWA will also work with the Parks and Recreation Committee on plans for renovation.
There was also discussion at the special session in regard to the appraisal for the property off Bluebird Drive, where a sand filter and chlorinator for the Pinnacle Center building appear to be located. The Board voted to communicate to the owner the results of the appraisal, and that the owner could either choose to move the system, or buy the property on which the current system is located through the public bid process, prior to finalizing a sale of the Pinnacle Center.
Trustees also voted to deny a variance request for Lot 37 Beachcomber's Haven to build closer than 70 feet from the water using the current footprint, but removing the existing foundation. A variance is considered when a new structure is placed on an existing foundation.
