The Flora man charged in an attempted kidnapping incident in Effingham earlier this month will remain in custody for now.

37-year-old Matthew Kelledes is the suspect in an incident that occurred January 19 in the lobby of a hotel in the 1300 block of Avenue of Mid America. Kelledes is accused of attempting to take a girl from the hotel. There were reports of a physical altercation between Kelledes, hotel staff and patrons prior to police reaching the scene. The girl is safe and was unharmed.

Kelledes was in court Wednesday on counts of attempted aggravated kidnapping as well as aggravated battery and attempted disarming of a peace officer.

During the hearing, a preliminary hearing for Kelledes was set for February 14. The issue of whether Kelledes should remain in custody was revisited. Judge Marc Kelly ruled that, in addition to the local charges, Kelledes is still on a parole hold for the Illinois Department of Corrections on another incident, so will remain in custody.
