House Fire in Effingham Late Sunday Night

The Effingham Fire Department received a call late Sunday night for a report of an attic fire at 505 S 3rd Street.

The call came just after 10:30pm. Upon firefighters' arrival, there was smoke showing from the exterior of the house. Occupants advised everyone was out of the house. Fire crews performed an interior fire attack and contained the fire to the attic area.

Firefighters were on the scene for just under an hour. The fire is still under investigation. Damage is estimated at $50,000.

Effingham Fire Department was assisted by Effingham City Dispatch, Effingham Police Department, Rural Med EMS, Teutopolis FPD, and Shumway FPD. Station coverage was provided by Altamont and Dieterich FPDs.
