(KELLEDES)

Flora resident Matthew Kelledes was formally charged Tuesday in relation to an attempted kidnapping incident in Effingham late last week.

The 37-year-old Kelledes was charged with counts of attempted aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery, and attempted disarming of a peace officer. The incident occurred about 7am in the lobby of a motel on Avenue of Mid America in Effingham.

There were reports of a physical altercation between Kelledes, hotel staff and patrons prior to city police officers and county sheriff's deputies reaching the scene.

The child involved was not harmed and is in the care of her parents.

During Tuesday's hearing, Judge Marc Kelly found that Kelledes should remain in custody. He will be held in Effingham County Jail.

Kelledes is next due in court on his first appearance with his attorney on January 31.
