(SHACKELFORD)

Mike Shackelford is leaving as superintendent of the Brownstown School District.

Shackelford made his resignation official at Monday night's board meeting. He was hired earlier this month as the next superintendent of the Casey-Westfield school district.

Shackelford will succeed Dee Scott, who is leaving Casey-Westfield as of the end of the school year. Shackelford will remain on the job at Brownstown as of June 30. He is in his seventh year as Brownstown superintendent after having served there as a principal.

The Brownstown board dealt with other personnel matters Monday. Resignations were accepted from Sherry Beckel as one to one aide, Bailey Lowes as a second grade teacher, and Robin Miller as district Art teacher. Others were hired for the remainder of the current school year, including Jamie Smith as a special education classroom aide, Shannon Sapp as a one to one aide and as a fulltime regular route bus driver, and Zach Gillespie as high school baseball assistant coach. The Board approved a letter of intent to retire from bus driver Rich Cade; approved a two-year contract extension with elementary principal Tracey Evans; approved a three-year contact with Jacy Schaub as district bookkeeper/secretary/treasurer; approved a scope change request to the performance contract with GRP Mechanical; approved new job descriptions for the district transportation director and school counselor; and approved the purchase of educational technology devices.

Brownstown board members also hired Jessica Sefton as the district athletic director for the coming school year. Sefton will succeed Vince Rohr, who is headed for the junior high athletic director job at Effingham Unit 40.

The Board also authorized Shackelford to prepare letters to the staff associations of the possibility of reductions in force for the coming school year.

The Board also approved a collective bargaining agreement with the Brownstown Education Association.

Brownstown board members reviewed school calendar options for the coming school year; approved a three-year agreement with Bushue Human Resources; and renewed an intergovernmental agreement with OKAW Vocational System.
