Cumberland school board members heard from a parent and teacher at this month's meeting.

Brittany Gilbert said she spoke about her concerns from a parent perspective in regards to issues facing many teenagers. She encouraged parents and the school district to take measures to address issues present with vaping, alcohol and marijuana use. From a teacher perspective, Gilbert felt that some of these issues might be a reason why education and the ability to learn has changed over the past 10 years. She said she doesn't have the answers, but she's willing to help any way she can and asked for others to help, too.

Also, Cumberland Middle School has been notified by the State Board of Education that they will be receiving $107,000 in funds from the school improvement grant utilized over the past few years.

The Cumberland board set the date for high school graduation on May 19.

In personnel moves, Cumberland board members employed Makenzie Flood as a part time unit office secretary, employed Lacy Cornell as a high school secretary, and accepted Jamie Dalton's irrevocable letter of retirement at the conclusion of the 2027-2028 school year.
