The number of calls to 911 in Effingham County continues to increase.

County 911 board members Tuesday heard that city dispatchers received 1,151 more 911 calls in 2023 than the previous year, and 2,300 more "admin" calls (calls using the 10-digit number) than in 2022.

The number of 911 calls to county dispatchers were slightly down from the year before, but there were 2,400 more "admin" calls than the previous year.

911 officials said there are concerns with false calls, which also take time for the dispatchers to process.

911 board members are also hopeful that the receipt of a new generator anticipated for months will happen soon. The generator is being tested, but not yet delivered. This unit will replace the generator that has been in place since the 911 system began operation.
