(EFFINGHAM POLICE DEPARTMENT OFFICER BRITTANY LOWERY AND EFFINGHAM CITY POLICE CHIEF JASON McFARLAND)

Effingham City Police Officer Brittany Lowery has been presented two awards for her service. Effingham City Police Chief Jason McFarland presented the awards at a recent meeting of the Effingham City Council.

Lowery was presented a Lifesaving Award for her efforts during an incident in June 2023. Police had received a report of a suicidal person, which turned out to be the result of an overdose. Lowery searched the area where the call had been received and found the man behind a large rock and comatose. Officer Lowery administered Narcan and the man recovered. McFarland said Lowery's actions saved the man's life.

Separately, Chief McFarland presented Lowery a Special Act Award. That presentation was the result of Lowery starting a mentoring program, and obtaining donations to fund the program, which is designed to work with at-risk young people.
