Death in Olney Believed to be Part of Murder-Suicide

The death of an Olney woman was apparently part of a murder-suicide.

We had reported last week on the death on Sunday, December 17, of 33-year-old Nicole Pedigo at her home in the 2400 block of East Main Street in Olney. Pedigo's death was due to a gunshot wound.

Early Tuesday morning, December 19, her boyfriend, 44-year-old Nick Giberson of Riverton was found dead in his home of an apparent suicide.

Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon said, "Mr. Giberson was found at his home in Riverton at 1:50am Tuesday. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. While the manner of death has not been officially determined, I am investigating it as an apparent suicide."

Illinois State Police are investigating the apparent murder-suicide, and said last week that "It is believed there are no safety concerns to the community regarding this incident."

Richland County Sheriff Andy Hires said the matter essentially ended with Giberson's death. Hires said, "There is still a lot of investigation left to be done on the back end of the case."
