The Village of Montrose is ready to begin the MAPPING process.

A meeting earlier this week got the ball rolling with a discussion of comprehensive planning.

MAPPING...Management and Planning Process Involving Nonmetropolitan Groups...is offered through the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs. The process will begin in the Fall of 2024. A steering committee will start meeting in January.

The process involves five three-hour planning sessions. Many communities in Effingham County and the surrounding area have already conducted the MAPPING process.

Residents will assess their community's status by diving into data and benchmarking themselves to similar communities. Following the assessment, they will contemplate where they would like to be and strategize on how to get there. Residents will vote on goals and conduct research by examining best practices implemented in other communities. Action teams will then be established to set objectives and collaborate on achieving each goal.
