Probation, Jail Time for Kinmundy Resident Charged w/Criminal Sexual Assault

Probation and jail time was imposed on a Kinmundy resident who pleaded guilty Wednesday to aggravated criminal sexual assault.

21-year-old Riley Smith, Jr. was charged with assaulting a girl who was under 13 years of age. The incident occurred in July of 2022 in a rural area near Farina. 

A Class X felony count of predatory criminal sexual assault was dismissed as part of the negotiated plea.

Smith was sentenced to 180 days in jail, but was given credit for 514 days served in jail while awaiting disposition of his case. Smith was also placed on four years' probation.
