Jasper County Man Sentenced to Prison for Sex Offenses

A Jasper County man has been sentenced to prison for sex offenses.

29-year-old Cody L. Sparks has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for predatory criminal sexual assault of a child. Sparks was also sentenced to seven years in prison on a count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. The sentences will run concurrently.

Jasper County State's Attorney James Treccia said Sparks' arrest stemmed from an investigation by Newton City Police.

Treccia commended Newton police for their "swift and thorough investigation." He added his hopes that the sentence will deter others from committing similar crimes and hopes that the victims and their families will find some comfort by the resolution of the case.
