Fatal Crash West of Altamont Friday Morning

One person was killed in a crash Friday morning on I-70 in Effingham County.

The crash happened about 1am in the eastbound lanes, about two miles west of Altamont.

Illinois State Police report that a truck was westbound when, for unknown reasons, it ran off the roadway, drove through the center median, and entered the eastbound lanes. The truck then struck an eastbound semi. Both the truck and the semi came to a fnal stop in the center median.

The driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi was not injured.
