A Centralia resident is again seeking the 12th District Congressional seat.
Joshua Qualls has filed as a candidate for the Democratic nomination. Chip Markel of Carbondale defeated Qualls for the nomination in 2022 and then lost to Republican Mike Bost in the general election.
This time, Bost has a primary opponent in former state senator Darren Bailey, who was the Republican nominee for governor in 2022.
As far as local filings, incumbent Republican Jeremy Deters has filed for a second term on the Effingham County Board from District I. Deters joins incumbent Republican Tim Ellis from District C and incumbent Democrat Doug McCain from District G as those who have filed for the Board.
The filing period continues through Monday.
