Cumberland Board Reflects on Oakley's Passing

Much of the focus of this month's meeting of the Cumberland Board of Education was on the unexpected death of district transportation director Mike Oakley.

It was shared that Oakley was usually the first face that Cumberland students saw when arriving for classes. It was also noted that it will be some time before all that Oakley did for the district is noticed.

The Board voted to name Steve Wheeler as the new Director of Transportation.

Several individuals were present to complain about a committee decision to end cheerleaders traveling to cheer at away boys basketball games. The Board announced that the decision has been rescinded and the past practice will be reinstated.

The Board approved Rayce Zike as a volunteer wrestling coach, accepted Brenda Foster's letter of resignation effective December 20, and accepted Larry Tarr's letter of resignation effective November 30.
