Altamont city council members Monday lowered the appropriations ordinance for the coming fiscal year.

The total appropriations were lowered by $1,198,220 to $646,749. The large reduction is due to a Council decision against pursuing a water line project along Main Street for the time being.

The Council also abated the tax levy since enough interest was earned on bonds issued by the City to make the bond payments. The levy was established at $277,000.

Altamont council members made a $47,243.25 payment on a sidewalk project along 3rd Street, and approved an ordinance concerning the construction of a structure known as a "barndominium" home at 302 North 10th Street.

The Council also appointed Jeff Simpson to chair the Altamont Zoning Board.
