The Effingham County 911 Board Tuesday awarded a proposal on a connection for the County answering point.

The decision was to relocate the connection from the south water tower in Effingham's business park to Siemer Milling Company's tower in Teutopolis. Global Technical Systems will relocate the connection for $39,959.87. The price includes replacement of the base radio. The current radio will be retained as a backup system.

The 911 Board approved its Fiscal Year 2024 budget, including a salary schedule calling for 5% increases in the salary schedule.

Board members heard that the system has been reimbursed by about $18,000 for lightning damage received earlier this year. The Board also heard that all of the lease agreements have been received for a countywide system of transmission towers to improve communications among all fire protection districts in the county.

It was also reported that 15 county and city telecommunicators were recently recognized by Teutopolis Fire Chief Tim McMahon and Assistant Chief Joe Holomy for their efforts in the aftermath of the ammonia release east of Teutopolis.
