A local man has been arrested on a charge of Aggravated Battery to a Child Under the Age of 13.

Effingham City Police arrested 65-year-old David B. Parker, who is a teacher aide in Unit 40 schools.

Police received a complaint of a battery to a student under age 13 at Effingham Junior High School on Wednesday, November 8. The incident allegedly occurred that same morning. After investigating, city police arrested Parker. Parker was taken into custody and booked into Effingham County Jail just after 10am Tuesday.

Aggravated Battery to a Child Under the Age of 13 is a Class 3 Felony and carries a sentence of up to five to 10 years in prison with fines up to $25,000.

The student sustained minor injuries during the occurrence and no students or faculty were involved.

City police say that after being alerted to the allegation, Unit 40 administrators fully cooperated with law enforcement concerning the incident.
