Altamont city council members Monday voted to purchase a destratifier to aid in the treatment of water for city customers.
The destratifier will cost $30,000. You might recall when Altamont had problems with its treated water. The new equipment is designed to keep that from happening again.
The Council purchased a used pickup truck from A&H Implements of Altamont for $20,000. The Streets and Alleys Department will use the truck. Also approved was a lease of real estate with Effingham County 911. An antenna will be placed on the city's tower located in Gilbert Park as part of the countywide network of communication towers for fire departments.
Council members approved a contract with Fred and ScottMo Enterprises, doing business as Luke's Bar and Grill. Once a renovation project is completed at the business, which is in Altamont's TIF District, the business will be reimbursed either 50% of the project cost or $10,000. The Council also heard a report on the city's audit, which showed no problems.
The Altamont council also paid $13,230 to 120 Water, the firm that is helping the City in identifying lead water lines that need replaced with copper lines. The company will be sending out a second notice to those who didn't respond to the initial notice. The Council also heard that the estimated tax levy for the coming fiscal year is estimated at $278,000, a 4.14% increase from last year. The levy is yet to be finalized.
