Altamont school board members Monday approved a performance contract with GRP/Wegman for a high school kitchen remodeling. The contract is for $791,780.

The Board also approved a consulting contract with IDEAL Environmental Engineering a kitchen abatement project.

The Altamont board got a report from Superintendent Casey Adam on work by the curriculum committee on curricular materials for SEL, high school Math, K-2 Math, Sociology  and Psychology, and Freshman Health. Each group reported on the progress of their research and shared which samples are being ordered for consideration.

The Board heard from Superintendent Adam that the levy should go up 10% from the previous year, and that all Effingham County districts are seeing increases in the 10% to 20% range due to rising Equalized Assessed Valuations. A Truth in Taxation hearing will take place prior to the December meeting.

In personnel moves, the Altamont board accepted resignations from Tessa Philpot as 7th grade volleyball coach, Gus Koester as golf coach, and Carly Dorr as high school dance coach; hired Elizabeth Chambers as 7th grade volleyball coach, Emily Wolff as high school dance coach, and Lindsay Durkin as grade school paraprofessional; and approved Shaun Splechter as volunteer coach for junior high volleyball.

The Board approved the purchase of a used van from A&H Implement for $31,500; discussed the potential need to conduct a district appraisal of property for insurance purposes; approved applying for a state maintenance grant; and approved Robert Roedl and Dale Laue to attend a countywide school board meeting on November 28 from 6 to 8pm at Teutopolis High School.
