Schoonover Murder Trial Re-Set for January

A new trial date has been set in the first degree murder trial of Paul Schoonover in Jasper County.

Schoonover is accused of causing the death of 59-year-old Terry Eastep of Newton in June at a residence in Newton. Eastep was found with life threatening injuries on June 8 and died on June 11.

Schoonover faces a charge of first degree murder and two counts of aggravated battery. He had been scheduled to go on trial in November, but at a hearing Tuesday, the trial was rescheduled for January 16. A final pretrial hearing was scheduled for January 4.

Schoonover is next due in court for a pretrial hearing on December 5.
