There were 5.4 days suitable for field work in Illinois during the week ending October 22, 2023.
Statewide, the average temperature was 53.5 degrees, 0.5 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.23 inches, 0.5 inches below normal.
Topsoil moisture supply was rated 8 percent very short, 33 percent short, 57 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 10 percent very short, 46 percent short, 43 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus.
Corn harvested reached 70 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 67 percent.
Soybeans harvested reached 80 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 71 percent.
Winter wheat planted reached 73 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 66 percent. Winter wheat emerged reached 36 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 34 percent.
