Xenia resident Jessie Goff has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for criminal sexual assault.

Clay County State's Attorney Phillip Givens said the 42-year-old Goff was arrested for a 2019 incident where Goff committed an act of sexual penetration with a 13-year-old. The charge is that Goff committed the act while he held a position of trust, authority, or supervision in relation to the minor.

A jury found Goff guilty after a one-day jury trial in August.

In addition to the prison term, Goff will have a mandatory supervised release period of three years to life and will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

The investigation was conducted by the Illinois State Police and assisted by the Clay County State's Attorney's Office. Givens said, "I am grateful for the victim in this case to receive a sense of justice for what occurred. We hope a sentence like this will deter others from committing similar crimes against the children in our community."
