Effingham City Police Corporal Troy Bloemker is the recipient of the Life Saving Award for actions taken May 2 at Petro Stopping Center.

City police say Bloemker was at Petro for a motorist assist cal when he was approached and told that a subject had fallen.  Corporal Bloemker responded and determined the man was in cardiac arrest and then began CPR until the ambulance arrived.

Corporal Bloemker drove the ambulance to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, allowing the paramedics to continue CPR, defibrillate, and provide urgent care for the man.  Police say the man was transferred to Carle Hospital in Urbana, but was expected to return home the following week.

City Police Chief Mike Schutzbach said Corporal Bloemker's immediate CPR skills played a major role in saving the man's life.
