Montrose and Teutopolis Fire Proection Districts were called to another crash within the I-70 construction zone Wednesday, the second significant incident in the zone in as many days.

The call came at 11:22am to the westbound lane at the 104.5 milepost. Two tractor trailer semis were involved in the crash. Both remained upright, but they blocked westbound travel. No one was injured.

Firefighters discovered diesel fuel leaking from the fuel tanks of one of the rigs. Utilizing containment pools, firefighters were able to capture approximately 100 gallons of fuel. Haz Mat "pigs" were also deployed and oil dry was spread on the roadway. When Heartland Towing and Recovery reached the scene, the fuel from the containment pools was pumped off into totes prior to the semi being recovered. Firefighters also assisted in removing debris from the roadway.

Firefighters cleared the scene just after 2pm.

Traffic was re-routed off the interstate and through Montrose, Teutopolis and Effingham while the crash was addressed.
