Clay County board members heard this month that an error was made in Flora property taxes.

The information was shared by Clay County Clerk Amy Britton with Flora City Administrator Mike Stanford. The statement shared at the meeting reads that "after collaboration of all parties, it was determined that the best option is to collect the tax bills as billed and scheduled. The City of Flora will then issue refund checks to taxpayers for the overpayment as quickly as possible after the final payments." The due dates for paying the bills will remain the same; September 29th for the first installment, and October 30th for the balance.

The Board also approved a Memorandum of Understanding with Apex Clean Energy. Apex spokesman Josh Hartke said the firm wants to build and install a 1,000-acre Flora Solar facility that would produce 125 megawatts of electricity when operational in late 2025. The facility would be located just southwest of Flora with construction to begin after the 2024 harvest.
