Teutopolis and area firefighters spent Saturday night at 3Z Printing, the scene of a structure fire.
The dispatch center received a 911 call at 8:44pm for reports of smoke coming from the building and a subsequent call for a fire alarm activation. When firefighters reached the scene, smoke was visible at the north end of the plant. The call was upped to a full still alarm, and mutual aid was received from Montrose, Watson and Sigel firefighters and from Rural Med EMS.
Firefighters made entry to the building on both the northeast side and northwest side and encountered heavy smoke conditions and heat. Fire crews re-entered the building and found a machine press on fire. The building sprinkler system held the fire in check and firefighters extinguished the fire. Thermal imaging cameras were used to check for any hot spots and firefighters and staff members began opening doors to vent the building.
Teutopolis police and Effingham County Sheriff's Office were also on scene.
The mutual aid companies cleared the scene at 11:32pm, while all remaining companies from Teutopolis cleared the scene at 12:01am.
The office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal and Teutopolis Fire Department are investigating the cause of the fire. No one was injured. Damage estimates are still being compiled.
