The Effingham/Effingham County Enterprise Zone Board voted to seek State approval of an addition to the local zone.

The annexation request was presented by South Central FS. The company requested the annexation of 1.14 acres of property at the corner of Willow Street and Gordon Avenue in Effingham. The parcel is immdiately south of FS' Fast Stop General Store and related operation on Willow Street and was the site of the Kirby Building. The plan is to demolish the Kirby Building and build a 17,050 square foot warehouse and retail building. They plan to add at least five new employees with an average wage rate of over $16/hour. The company plans to make a $2.4 million investment in the project.

The Enterprise Zone Board's motion was to accept the annexation request and move forward with submitting an application to the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

Being a part of the Enterprise Zone entitles a developer to property tax abatements for a specific period of time as well as sales tax savings on building materials.
