Altamont school board members Monday took a tour of their grade school and high school buildings in preparation for the new school year.

There were two summer work projects at the grade school building; new flooring in the main office and resurfacing of the track, which serves both the grade school and the high school.

Key projects at the high school were asbestos abatement and removal of the old boiler in the basement, and the addition of a classroom for the Business department.

The Board also received reports from building principals, from Superintendent Casey Adam, from Activities Director Katie Lurkins, and from Maintenance and Facilties Director Alan Whitt.

Board members reviewed the tentative budget that will likely be adopted at the September meeting.

In personnel matters, the Altamont board accepted resignations from nurse Amanda Dust, from paraprofessional Vicki Grobengieser, from teacher Frankie Jenkins, from Dre Hill as fresh/soph boys basketball coach, and from Amy Ruckman as junior high Scholar Bowl coach. Those hired Monday included Cortney Hanna as a bus driver, Devin Gragert as a paraprofessional, John Frinfrock, Shelli Cotton, and Rosemary Parsons as SPED teachers, Monica Harshman as a teacher, and Eric Heiden as junior high Scholar Bowl coach. The Board also approved Rob Zumbahlen to be a volunteer coach for junior high baseball and for high school golf.

Board members approved an amended contract for grade school principal Doug Hill for the coming school year, and voted to engage into an agreement with HUDL for livestreaming for a period of three years. The Board also approved a joint agreement with OKAW for the 2024-2025 school year, updated policies, and awarded a fuel bid to The Equity for the coming school year.
