The local man charged with aggravated robbery in an attempted holdup of an Effingham bank made a court appearance Monday.

45-year-old Bradley Bennett entered Fifth-Third Bank Friday and intimated that he was armed and demanded money. Bank employees alerted city police who responded and took Bennett into custody while he was still on the premises.

Bond for Bennett was initially set at $100,000, but Judge Marc Kelly reduced the bond at Monday's hearing to $50,000.

Aggravated battery is not the same as armed robbery since Bennett did not display a weapon. A search of Bennett found that he was armed at the time of the incident.

Judge Marc Kelly scheduled Bennett's next appearance for Thursday.
