A multi-vehicle crash occurred about 4pm Thursday on Interstate 70 Eastbound at the 99.5 mile marker, east of Effingham.

Teutopolis Fire Chief Tim McMahon said the crash involved two semis, a car and a pickup truck pulling a horse trailer.

No humans were injured, but McMahon said a horse had to be extricated from the trailer. The horse suffered a few scrapes and scratches, but was otherwise okay. A Montrose man picked up the horse from the scene and took it to a nearby farm where it was being examined by a veterinarian.

The roadway was re-opened just before 5pm.
