Salem resident Marcus Hicks has been arrested in Effingham County on charges including burglary and possession of a stolen vehicle.

The 33-year-old Hicks is accused of breaking into the Beerport outside Edgewood and with possession of a vehicle believed taken from Kinmundy. Hicks faces other charges in Marion County related to the incident.

Effingham County Sheriff Paul Kuhns said his office got an alarm from the Beerport overnight Sunday night. Kuhns said a deputy was nearby and responded to the scene, and noticed the glass was busted out of the door. He found the suspect and took him into custody without further incident. The sheriff said that considerable damage had been done inside the business.

Hicks is charged locally with counts of burglary, possession of burglary tools, criminal damage to property, possession of a stolen vehicle, and driving while his license is revoked. His bond has been set at $75,000 and is next due in court on August 24.
